Most Malaysian SME owners know SEO. But far fewer have heard of Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO). Even fewer know it is already deciding which businesses get seen first when someone asks Google AI a question.

Google no longer just returns a list of links. For many queries, it now generates an AI Overview at the very top, summarising the answer before users even see the results. The brand cited in that summary gets the click, and more importantly, the trust.

Newnormz helped NKH Chartered Accountants, a professional accounting firm in Malaysia, achieve exactly that. Here is how the process worked, what we changed, and what the results looked like after three months.

Why AEO Matters to Malaysian Businesses

Many users no longer browse several websites before choosing a business. They now get direct answers through Google AI Overviews and other AI search tools.

AEO helps your website become easier for AI engines to read, understand, and reference. A well structured page gives your business a stronger chance to appear when potential customers search for services, prices, comparisons, or recommendations in Malaysia.

Malaysian SMEs can use AEO to build trust earlier in the search journey. Clear answers, organised content, and strong credibility signals help your brand stand out before users even click into a website.

Problem: Good Content That AI Could Not Use

NKH Chartered Accountants has a functional website but limited organic visibility. The content was competent, but it was not structured in a way that AI engines could parse and cite.

Like many professional services firms, NKH relied heavily on referrals. The goal was to build a digital presence that generated enquiries directly from search, without increasing ad spend.

A technical audit of the NKH Accountants website revealed several recurring issues that prevented AI engines from extracting and referencing their content.

  • No structured FAQ sections on key service pages
  • Answers to common accounting questions buried inside long paragraphs
  • Missing schema markup, including FAQPage and LocalBusiness structured data
  • Weak keyword alignment between page content and actual search queries
  • No clear definition blocks for industry terms that users frequently search

The site was indexable and readable by humans. The problem was that AI engines are not human. They scan for signals: structured answers, schema, entity clarity, and direct response formats. NKH had none of those in place.

Strategy: Four Changes That Drove AI Visibility

Putting NKH on AI Overview with key strategies

1. Restructured Content Around Questions

Newnormz identified the top 20 questions Malaysian SME owners search when looking for accounting services. These included queries such as ‘how to file SST Malaysia,’ ‘what does a company secretary do,’ and ‘accounting fees for small business Malaysia.’

Each service page was rewritten to include a clear, direct answer to at least one of these questions within the first 150 words. Supporting detail followed below. This format mirrors the structure AI engines prefer when selecting content to cite.

2. Added FAQ Sections with Schema Markup

Every major page received a structured FAQ section with five to eight questions and concise answers between 40 and 80 words each. FAQPage schema was applied across all updated pages, making it easier for Google to identify and extract individual answers.

This single change had the most visible impact. Within six weeks, two NKH pages began appearing in AI Overviews for accounting-related queries in Malaysia.

3. Improved Entity and Location Clarity

AI engines need to clearly understand who a business is, where it operates, and what it does. The existing NKH pages used vague phrasing such as ‘our services’ and ‘the team.’

These were updated with full entity references, service-specific language, and consistent location signals tied to Malaysia and key cities.

LocalBusiness schema was also added with complete NAP details, business categories, and service areas. This reinforced the site’s relevance for Malaysian-specific queries.

4. Built Supporting Content to Establish Topical Authority

Ranking in AI answer boxes is not just about one page. Google assesses the overall authority of a site on a given topic. Newnormz developed supporting blog articles covering related accounting queries, all internally linked to the core service pages.

This cluster approach gave Google more evidence that NKH Accountants was a credible, comprehensive source on Malaysian accounting topics.

The Results After Three Months

Here is a summary of the measurable outcomes tracked across the campaign period.

MetricBefore AEOAfter AEO (3 months)
AI Answer Box appearances014 tracked queries
Organic traffic (monthly)820 sessions1,490 sessions (+82%)
Branded search volumeLowUp 3x
Average position (target queries)18.46.1

The most significant outcome was NKH’s appearance in AI Overviews for 14 tracked queries, including several high-intent terms that previously returned no organic presence for the firm.

The firm also saw a direct increase in consultation enquiries, which the team attributes to stronger trust signals created by AI visibility.

Turn AI Search Visibility Into Business Enquiries

The NKH Accountants result shows what happens when content is built for the new search journey. AI generated answers are now shaping what users see first, and the brands selected as sources gain trust before a prospect even clicks into their website.

Many Malaysian SME websites are still not ready for AEO. That creates a strong opening for service based businesses in accounting, legal, healthcare, education, logistics, and other competitive industries to move ahead while competitors are still relying on traditional SEO alone.

Newnormz helps businesses turn existing website content into clearer, stronger, AI ready assets. This includes improving answer structure, applying schema, strengthening topical authority, and giving AI search engines a clearer reason to reference your brand.

Contact Newnormz today to review your website’s AEO readiness and uncover the content gaps that may be stopping your business from appearing in AI powered search results.
